Anticipation [wind band] - PDF SCORE

Conductor’s Scores for large ensemble works (wind band, orchestra, etc.) published by E.K.R. HAMMELL MUSIC are optimized for 11x14 printing (which optionally scales down to 9x12 and 8.5x11 if desired).

IDEAL SCORE PREPARATION:

-Fit all pages to 11”x14” 

-double-sided

-Interior pages: B&W on 70lb opaque/matte paper

-No page additions needed

-Coil-bound OR saddle-stitch spine (cheaper, and scores are pre-formatted in page quantities of multiples of 4 to allow this)

-Covers (OPTIONAL) : colour on white card stock (Collector Covers can be found as separate 2-page PDF attachments sent with your initial order)

HOME/OFFICE SCORE PREPARATION:

If 11x14 printing size is not available to the purchaser, this sizing scales down fairly well to either 9x12 (a common concert band score size) or 8.5x11 (standard US Letter). This can be accomplished by selecting “Fit Pages” or “Fit to Printable Area” in your computer’s printing specifications window. 

NOTE: Scaling down to 8.5x11 is not recommended for large ensemble scores (due to legibility concerns), but if it is your only option, it will work! In any case, make sure to select “Fit Pages” or “Fit to Printable Area” before printing the booklet.

NOTE - Collector Covers (colour) are sent in separate PDFs and may be added to (/merged with) any B&W print score optionally.

Parts published by E.K.R. HAMMELL MUSIC are optimized for 8.5x11 (standard US Letter size) printing. Every attempt is made to create manageable page turns at the end of every part page, with the goal of being equally suited for a variety of different reading scenarios (single-sided printing, double-sided printing, or tablet).

Anticipation is a musical impression of the simple, yet visceral feeling of tension and excitement leading up to an adventure. The composer was inspired to write this piece by the prolonged wait before being permitted to return to his home province of Prince Edward Island, as the Island’s COVID restrictions eased in the summer of 2021.

A bold opening section reflects an outburst of elation and validation when it becomes clear an adventure is inevitable. Then, a new faster tempo and main theme emerges and builds, exploring the feeling of wonder and excitement for all of the possibilities ahead. The following contrasting middle section gradually builds in layers—the plan for the adventure starts to take shape, becoming increasingly detailed, intricate and even devious. The main theme then returns, more fully realized and robust, as the plan for the adventure has now been made concrete. Reflecting how the feeling of anticipation is often more exciting and overwhelming than the experience itself, the piece ends with a dramatic build meant to illustrate the moment just before the plane touches down on the runway.
